   The most exciting moment of carving for me is the first coat of 'finish'.  As the sandpaper gets finer you see grain within the grain.  Through 320, 400, and 600 grit sandpapers more and more intricate grain patterns appear.  Ultimately, when you put finish on, they become increasing compelling to explore visually.
