Construction - Finishes

When I started carving I used Johnson & Johnson Floor Polish to get a rich luster!  That was a long time ago and didn't last long.  I've used more Watco Danish Oil than any other product, but have experimented with other finishes including spraying lacquer on my most recent pieces.

The most exciting moment of carving for me is the first coat of 'finish'.  As the sandpaper gets finer you see grain within the grain.  Through 320, 400, and 600 grit sandpapers more and more intricate grain patterns appear.  Ultimately, when you put finish on, they become increasing compelling to visually explore.
